Winchester 1866 Fourth Model carbine - From the Buffalo Bill Show
Winchester 1866 Fourth Model carbine - From the Buffalo Bill Show
A NEW CONSIGNMENT WINCHESTER Model 1866 Winchester RIFLE -
This particular gun is a carbine with serial # 169152, placing production in late 1898 and making it a very late 4th Model gun. The saddle-ring carbine is in between very good and excellent NRA condition, with the barrel metal retaining over 90% original bluing cover, and what cover remains has turned to a brown patina. The edges of the barrel and receiver appear still sharp and the lettering readable. The receiver is also in similar condition with little wear to the brass. Screw heads of the side plates are in excellent condition. The wood is in very good condition, with very few handling marks and no visible cracks. The wood appears original, is dark from handling and oil, and does not look to have been refinished in the past. The correct original front and rear ladder sights are still on the gun. The bore is in similar condition to the rest of the gun. This carbine was from the house of Buffalo Bill?s eastern agent. The Buffalo Bill show ended in 1899 so the gun was probably not used extensively by the show, thus the very good condition.
