From $11,000 TO $7,500 --This great Winchester model 1886, 45-90 caliber is, as evidenced by its distribution date and low serial number (SN 3865), a very early production run, and is in Good to Very Good condition. It represents an exceptional opportunity to own a true Collector rifle with an extraordinary history.
Rifle has a 26 inch round barrel, walnut stock and forearm, half magazine, sporting leaf sight, steel shotgun butt plate, and no engraving. It has never been altered or up-graded, and conforms 100% to the description on Winchester Repeating Fire Arms Factory Letter (provided by Cody Firearms Museum).
The stock was refinished once over half a century ago in connection with repair to a dimple next to the butt plate, but the rifle is in all other respects 100% original. The rifling is sound and bright. Original case hardening coloration is estimated at 25-35%. Lever action is crisp.
This rifle has remained in family hands since it was purchased new by seller?s grandfather (1869 - 1918) in Scranton (now Pascagoula), MS in 1887, and has never been sold or traded. Weapon was purchased for security purposes by seller?s Grandfather for use on several sailing vessels that he initially captained ? and later owned and operated - on international shipping routes and within international waters. Additional details are available upon request. Seller has an extensive history of how and when and where it was used, and will share information with interested buyers.
