A very early Model 1906 .22, with Serial # 239828. This gun was made in 1910, four years after the start of production. The gun shoots short, long and long-rifle bullets and is in very good condition. The metal parts retain over 90% brown patina, with the barrel and receiver covered about the same, while the magazine has slightly less patina. The barrel tip has been filed on one side, sometime in the past and there is one nick and two wrench marks. Wood is all in excellent condition, no cracks and all wood fits well to metal parts of the gun. The stock has a minimal number of small dings, while the forearm is the early smooth type and does have replacement forearm screws. Action is tight and bore clean. Butt plate is replacement and lower tip cracked, but does have original Winchester butt plate screws. Front and rear sights are original Winchester issue with 1901 patent dates. Even with a few flaws, this gun would make a wonderful addition for the serious Winchester collector, as not many of the very early 1906 models are still found in this condition.
