A very early model 1890 Winchester in .22 SHORT bullet configuration. The serial number of 211047 is found only on the lower tang (which is appropriate) and places production in late August of 1904. Gun is in very good condition with 80-85% original patina cover left on barrel and magazine metal, most having turned to a brown hue. Bluing remains around the tang screw and cover plate, potions of the barrel and on right side of receiver. Octagon edges are still crisp and sharp and these are where most of the cover-wear is on the barrel. The stamped Winchester lettering is all clear and there are two small scratches on the barrel, one where it looks like they tried to wrest out a stuck inner magazine tube. It looks like they tried to file that area on the barrel and added a small touch of blue. Bore in good condition, shiny with rifling clearly visible but also with some markings on the lans. Magazine loading port has been slightly widened but magazine friction spring is still present and the new inner magazine slides easily and works well. Gun comes with original Marbles flexible rear sight (with DA stamped underneath) and the hard-to-find folding Globe sight on the front. Gun also still has original #30-B rear sight on barrel with elevation screw. The sight picture on this gun is one of the best that I have seen in an 1890 Winchester. Forearm wood in excellent condition. Rear stock wood has three round impressions near the original curved metal butt plate and the neck has been checkered sometime in the distant past. Someone has also lightly etched in the lower tang wood an identification number. There are no visible cracks and a new tang screw does snug wood completely to receiver, upper and lower tang. Action is still tight and all internal parts present and operate smoothly. A very nice representative early Second Model 1890 Winchester with some valuable and expensive sights.
