Outstanding early Marlin 1889 Model with 24inch octagon barrel and strong bore. Gun comes in the 32 W (32-20) caliber. The serial number on the inside upper tang only is 38598, indicating 2nd year production in 1891. The gun barrel has well over 80% patina covering with only the octagon edges worn. The barrel has patent dates of 1887 and 1889 clearly stamped into the metal. The receiver and lever covering has turned to a mottled brown, with Marlin Safety stamped into the receiver top and no markings on the tang. Wood all in good condition except for a small chip in front of the lower corner of the metal crescent butt plate. The are no other cracks or major dents in the wood, with finish smooth and correctly aged. Gun still has original Marlin special-order sights with a smaller front blade and a flat rear buckhorn that still has the elevator present. Screw heads all in good condition except for the small forearm cap and lower receiver screw. Lever arm has small repair in front of the catch that still works well. All internal parts functional with bolt fitting snugly into the receiver and hammer spring strong. This gun is a very nice example of the 1889 Marlin.
