The model 62 is what you can say a direct decendant of the model 1906. It was introduced in 1932, had a 23 inch barrel, utilized the mod 1890 receiver (it was identical to the 3rd model 1890) and the 1906 carrier assembly. It was chambered to tak the .22 short, long and long rifle bullets. The mod 62 was also offered in a .22 short only version (mod 62s). When it was introduced in 1932 the retail price was $17.85 wow!
Interesting side notes...
If you have an X behind your seiral number it means that the Winchester factory inadvertently stamped the same serial number on a different gun.
In 1935 Winchester changed the locking system from a 3 pin to a one pin. (look on the top of your bolt at the umber of pins) you will see the one-pin breech bolt from about serial number 20,000 to as high as 98,000. When they did this the facory stamped the letter A behind the serial number of the mod 62s.
On Sept 8, 1938 Winchester made changes to the 62. They replaced the flat mainspring and all the components (ie. hammer sturip and pin, flat mainspring, ms screw, ms strain screw trigger pin and trigger pin screw) with the coiled hammer spring, hammer spring abutment, h.s.a. pin and h.s.a. guide rod, this resulted in the mod 62A. (there was a period when 62's were still being manufactured along with the 62A)
