Winchester 1890 - 22 SHORT (Ref #0823)
Winchester 1890 - 22 SHORT (Ref #0823)
A very nice early 1890 Winchester Second Model rifle. A serial number of 209227 places production of this pump .22 in 1904. This 1890 rifle shoots SHORT .22 bullets, and has a very nice bore, shiny and still with strong rifling and with some lead residue and a few markings in the lands. The gun came right at the end of the case hardened receivers and the slow rust bluing covers well over 90 percent of all the metal surfaces. There is wear along the octagon edges and around the muzzle while some of the cover has turned to a nice patina. The roll die markings are still crisp and clear. The stock has a few handling marks and all wood is solid to metal unions and without cracks. This rifle has a Special order Rocky Mountain Blade front sight and a rear 30-A Winchester Model 90 sight with elevator screw, with both providing a clear sight picture. All internal parts function perfectly and main spring is still strong. This early 1890 rifle would make a very nice addition to any Winchester collection and as an investment will continue to retain its Winchester Collector value. A very early Second Model Winchester 1890 in SHORT. The serial number of 209227 indicates production in 1904 and is found only on the lower tang of this gun and is correct for a Model 1890 of this vintage. A very nice bore with sharp rifling, shinny and with some markings in the lans. There is a Rocky Mountain large bladed special order front sight, a Winchester Model 30B rear sight with elevator screw, and the curved metal butt plate still has complete bluing. Wood is very nice, solid and with a minimum of handling marks. Metal bluing still strong covering over more than 90% of the gun, mostly as a dark brown patina. A nice collectable 1890 rifle in the less common early Second Model version.
