PRICE REDUCED WELL BELOW BLUE-BOOK VALUE...From a Private collection, an amazingly well preserved 1886 Winchester Sporting Rifle in 38-56 caliber with a case-hardened receiver. The gun has a serial number of 26791 indicating production in 1888. The gun looks to have been hardly used at all as the metal and wood are all in excellent, and original condition. The bore on this 38-56 gun is immaculate, shiny with prominent rifling and no evidence of any pitting. The case-hardened receiver still retains a good bit of visible color as does the butt plate, while the remainder has a greyish color from the ageing process of the case-hardening procedure. The round barrel and magazine are in excellent condition with only one small scratch on the barrel in front of the receiver, no dents, and both have 98% metal cover that has turned to a soft patina. There looks like one screw has been replaced on the right receiver side. All lettering is crisp and readable over entire gun. The front sight is a Rocky Mountain while the rear is a semibuckhorn with correct elevator for this time period. The stock and forearm are in very good condition with a very minimum of handling marks. There is one small ~1.5 inch crack starting on the top left or the forearm, but all wood is still proud to the metal surfaces even to the curved metal butt plate. Internal mechanisms all operative and action tight and lever-bolt functions crisply when the gun is cocked. Trigger spring still strong and hammer strikes firing pin in bolt with considerable force. This is a true Collector Quality 1886 Winchester rifle. The gun will be shipped in a hard plastic case and can go directly to the buyer as no FFL is required for purchase and shipping of this collectable, and very hard-to-find 1886 Sporting rifle!
